In my sixteen years within the Aerospace i've got hardly ever stumble upon a extra quoted or popular textual content with the prospective exception of Roark's formulation for pressure and pressure. Bruhn is the root for many Aerospace corporation power manuals. it's actually the Bible of flight automobile research. even though, there is not any index, just a cursory desk of contents. a superb reference for loads of sensible formulation yet abrupt on theoretical clarification as a rule. Many instance difficulties yet back very abrupt on clarification. can have higher illustrations. For the entire above purposes Bruhn will get excessive marks as a reference yet as a textual content for studying it's missing; even for somebody with a heritage and schooling in simple rigidity research. it's nonetheless probably the most entire and functional airplane structural textual content round and nonetheless a needs to learn for any flight car structural engineer.

The SOLIPH program was developed by the Solar Energy Research Institute, SERI, now the National Renewable Energy Institute, NREL (Kutscher 1983) to model a wide range of industrial process heat systems. This program models specific systems and thus does not have the flexibil ity to model systems that were not considered in the original program. However, the authors can modify the code to investigate new systems. Because the program is not general, it does not have a high overhead. Consequently, it is very fast and can be used to lookat a large number of design variables for little cost.

All simulation programs have algorithms to convert total radiation on a horizontal surface to either beam or total radiation on surfaces of any orientation. Of course, if experi mental data are available for the beam and diffuse components of solar radiation, they should be used in the simulation. The problems of predict ing radiation on surfaces of arbitrary orientation are discussed in chapter 3 of volume II of this series, Solar Resources. The thermal loss coefficients of concentrating colltors are often strong functions of temperature due to the large effects of thermal radiation.
